Dear Parents/Guardian

You will be aware from the national press that there is a planned day of action by a number of public sector unions on Wednesday, 30 November 2011.

It is with regret that I am letting you know that the school will be closed for all pupils on this day and I trust that this does not cause you too much inconvenience.

School will be open as usual on Thursday, 1 December.

All parents are welcome to attend. Please note that child care services will be available during the meeting if parents would like to bring their children along.

Target Setting Day - Friday, 14 October 2011

Target Setting Day is on Friday, 14 October 2011. There will be no school for pupils on this day. Pupils have been asked to arrange a time with their Form Tutotor for their review so that each individual pupil can discuss their progress and their grades in each subject. Parents are requested to attend with their son or daughter. Pupils are required to wear full school uniform and being their Journals with them for this important meeting.

This is a Study Day for the Sixth Form and the Library LRC will be open to those who wish to use it.

Due to unforeseen circumstances there is likely to be extreme difficulty with access to and from St Thomas More School this Friday. Therefore, the Governors have made the decision to close the school to pupils on Friday, 9 September 2011.

Our Open Morning is on Wednesday, 5 October 2011 from 9.30-11.00am.

The GCSE improvement of 23 percentage points to 54% (A*-C including English and Maths) makes us one of London's most improved schools in 2011.

Headteacher Update

Dr Hickey has tendered his resignation to pursue his academic career and publishing interests. Mr Martin Tissot will continue as Acting Headteacher.

Dr Colm Hickey

Dr Colm Hickey was appointed Headteacher of St Thomas More Catholic School in 2004. During his headship results improved significantly doubling at GCSE from 35% to 71% and improving from 86% to 100% at A level. The school also received numerous academic, sporting, and community awards.

In 2010 Dr Hickey was granted special leave to further his academic and publishing interests. He subsequently tendered his resignation to pursue these interests more fully and has a number of publications forthcoming in 2011 and beyond.

Mr Pat Egan, Chair of the governing Body said: 'The Governing Body would like to put on record its appreciation for the dedication, energy, commitment and effort that Dr Hickey gave the school. He leaves with our very best wishes for the future and with our thanks for all he has achieved.’

Dr Hickey said: ‘It has been a wonderful opportunity to lead St Thomas More Catholic School. I believe that it is a fantastic school with a tremendous future and wish to thank all of the governors, staff, students and parents who gave me their support in the last six years. I look forward to meeting up with many of them again.’
