KS3 Drama

In Key Stage 3 Drama is taught once a week and covers a wide range of social issues from murder mystery to gang conflict.

Exploring a range of skills including:

  5. Monologue
  6. Duologue
  7. Improvisation
  8. Narration
  9. Exaggeration
  10. Angels and Devils
  11. Essence Machine
  12. Split-Stage

GSCE Drama

GCSE Drama is taught three times a week and split into three sections:

  1. Improvisation
  2. Exploration of a play accompanied by a visit to the theatre
  3. Devising your own play

GCSE Drama is worth one GCSE.

BTEC Performing Arts

The BTEC Performing Arts Course prepares the students to work in the Performing Arts Industry, it is taught six times a week and covers a wide range of topics including:

  1. Acting: preparing and performing an audition piece
  2. Devising: creating two performances, one to be shown in a whole school celebration and the other in a primary school as a T.I.E production
  3. Scripted Performances: performing a play within group
  4. Dance: preparing and performing for a dance audition
  5. Production Project: A final performance that combines all of the skills developed on the course
  6. Performing Arts Business: To be taught alongside the Production Project, this module takes a look behind the scenes in the world of Performing Arts industry

BTEC Performing Arts is worth the equivalent of 4 GSCE’s.

KS5 Drama and Theatre Studies

At Key Stage 5 we offer AS/A2 Drama and Theatre Studies.

AS

Within AS level Drama students will:

  1. Learn about the conventions of theatre through the thorough exploration of theatre practitioners and genres
  2. Explore and research one main theatre practitioner in detail with relation to two play scripts
  3. Perform a group piece and a monologue to a live audience
  4. Attend a number of theatre visits and workshops with professional companies

A2

Within A2 Drama students will:

  1. A group performance in response to either a stimulus or a published play
  2. Study one play
  3. Study one period of theatrical history
  4. Attend a number of theatre visits and workshops with professional companies

AS and A2 Drama and Theatre Studies is worth one A Level.

Extra Curricular

In Drama we offer a wide range of extra curricular actives, such as:

  • Year 7/8 Drama Club Wed lunch time run by 6th Formers
  • All exam groups are taken to see live performances
  • All exam groups take part in workshops run by performance companies
  • Members of exam groups are given the opportunity to take part in evening or holiday drama clubs with outside agencies such as The National Theatre
  • All exam groups perform their assessment pieces to an invited audience
