Moscati House Prayer
In the exercise or your medical profession,
You always took care of both the body and the soul of every patient.
We ask you to help us to attain both physical and spiritual health.
Soothe the pains of our suffering,
give comfort to the sick,
consolation to the afflicted
and hope to the despondent.
Help us be as honest,
kind and sympathetic as you were
Amen

Saint Joseph Moscati [1880-1927]
Saint Joseph Moscati was made a saint in 1987
Born in Benevento, Southern Italy, the son of a Judge, Joseph studied medicine at Naples. He was a successful hospital doctor and teacher, and showed courage in the Vesuvius eruption of 1906 and the epidemic of cholera that followed. He also pioneered new treatment for diabetes.
He gave up a teaching career at the university to devote himself to his to his patients in the hospital and the training of young doctors. He was a head physician at the Incurabili hospital in Naples. His catholic faith was important to him and led him to focus on his work with the poor. He wished to bring the message of Christ.
Moscati would leave banknotes under patients’ pillows. He died suddenly aged 46.
Joseph Moscati is a clear example of faith in action.
