Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Exams

In July 2016, pupils undertook instrumental examinations and achieved excellent results with the esteemed Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Pupils from Years, 8, 9 and 10 took exams in grades 1, 2 and 3 achieving an outstanding 100% pass rate.  Additionally, for the first time in its history, St Thomas More School were the host for the exams.

ABRSM examinations are prestigious awards, from which pupils can gain UCAS points to help with their university applications. As part of the exam, pupils must perform three pieces on their chosen instrument, play scales, complete listening tests and have a sight reading test.

Saron Habtes achieved an excellent pass mark for her performance and said, “I am so proud of my progress from the beginning of the year to the end. I had such a good teacher. It is so rewarding to have all my hard work judged so well.”

At St Thomas More there is an excellent programme of instrumental lessons ranging from the violin to piano and drums.  All instrumental teachers are experts in their field and provide excellent one-to-one tuition.  Acting Head of Music, Mr Gaughran, commented: “I am thrilled that our pupils’ talents have been recognised through these fantastic results. The staff at the school are so proud of all of our pupils! We also acknowledge all the hard work of our peripatetic teaching staff”.
