Science is an integral part of the world around us. It affects the decisions that we make and helps to explain the world we live in. Science provides students with vital life skills such as the ability to analyse information, reasoning skills and the opportunity to look at life from different perspectives.
Accommodation, Resources and Facilities
The department consists of seven laboratories, including one dedicated ICT laboratory and three preparation rooms servicing the laboratories. Each laboratory has a data projector, an interactive whiteboard or an LCD screen. All staff are given a laptop with a DVD resource pack.
Course description
Key Stage 3 Science is taught through a number of topics such as chemical patterns, forces and motion, energy and life processes.

Students are assessed at regular intervals throughout Key Stage 3 by their teachers. At the end of each topic students are given a test to evaluate their understanding of concepts, at the end of Year 7 and Year 8 they have an examination and scientific investigations are assessed throughout the course. Year 9 students sit both a school based examination and Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) at the end of the year.
At GCSE, all students take Additional Science and BTEC Applied Science
Courses offered at AS and A2: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
