The Social Science Department is accommodated in one central classroom with an interactive whiteboard and uses a range of other ICT rooms and classrooms.

Sociology is a popular and well established subject in the school with a good pass rate at both GCSE and A level. We organise trips to visit Law Courts at Wood Green and the Old Bailey for Year’s 10 and 12. Year 12/13 students visit other religious organisations such as a local Mosque as part of their studies.  Ex-students have moved on to University careers in Law, Criminology, Education, Childcare and Social Science.

Health and Social Care has been very successfully introduced into the school at KS4 and KS5. Work Experience is an integral part of the courses we offer and is carried out in local Nurseries, Primary schools, Doctors’ Surgeries and Day Centres. We also engage in other Vocational activities such as having guest speakers who are Service Users and Care Professionals. Guest speakers include Senior Citizens, a Blind person and an ex-Nurse. Many students continue with the subject from one key stage to the next and use this as a springboard to Higher Education. Ex-students are now at University studying Nursing, Social Work, Childcare and Public Health.

Psychology has proved a popular but challenging alternative for some of our able students. It requires competence in all the core skills: Literacy, Numeracy and reasoning skills. Ex-students have successfully combined it with Arts or Science subjects to move onto Higher Education careers in Psychology, Law, Business and Childcare.
