Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is flourishing at St Thomas More. It’s a big commitment to take on but pupils who sign up always find it worthwhile; and it’s something that many employers, universities and colleges hold in high regard.
There are four parts to the award. At the initial Bronze stage you have to show that you can learn and develop a new skill, participate in sports or a physical activity, work as a volunteer and go on an expedition (that’s the bit most people remember!) We usually organise two camping expeditions during the summer and autumn terms.
Participation in the award scheme is a fantastic opportunity for students to get the recognition they deserve for their talents and endeavours outside the classroom.
The award is currently open to Year 9 pupils. Please see Mr Andrews or Mr Dalrymple, Teachers of English, if you are interested in signing up as places are limited!
