Globe Curtain Raiser Competition 2024
On Thursday 9th November, a group of Year 9 pupils participated in a two hour audition workshop after school with Shakespeare's Globe, as part of the audition process for their exciting Curtain Raiser Competition 2024. The pupils' work was also filmed and shown to a panel of judges made up of representatives from the Globe and Deutsche Bank.
We have been informed by the Globe that our application has been successful and our pupils have been selected to perform on stage at the Globe Theatre in March 2024! They will be rehearsing over a number of weeks with a Globe practitioner to present their own devised performance as an opening, or 'curtain raiser' before a performance of Romeo and Juliet to a live, sell out audience.
The Globe said of our pupils "The Globe staff and the selection panel were so impressed with your group of students and would love for you to take part in this year’s project. The team felt your young people were warm, committed and bold and would have no problem commanding the Globe stage. Congratulations!"
This once-in-a-lifetime experience is something we are sure the pupils involved will never forget. They will be representing St Thomas More Catholic School on one of the most famous stages in the world next year.
